How powerful are words?

This whole Don Imus thing has really got me intrigued....for one thing...we all know that these men probably sit around and talk like this all the time. But to say it over the airwaves was just plain stupid. But on the other hand while I would never condone what he said I wonder....do we hold rappers and entertainers to this same standard. They call women ho's and bitches all day long...but we just sing right along with them and never question them. That's why the Don Imus' and Michael Richards of the world think that they can get away with just an apology and go on a black radio program and say what they've done for the black community and we are supposed to buy it. I DON'T THINK SO!!!! As the coach for Rutgers said....these women are valedictorians, music prodigies, and high achieving students...for them to be degraded in this way is implorable. Some supporters of Imus say that calling for his resignation or firing is going too far.....What if Tom Joyner called the UCLA Bruins team members some stringy-haired bitches....all hell would have broke loose and he would not be the hardest working man in radio anymore. But the thing is until we (black people) start setting examples and holding higher standards no one is going to take us seriously. I am surprised though that some of the advertisers have decided to pull out...that is really the only way the networks are going to listen and do something about what has happened. Money is the only thing they hear....when the major ads start to leave.....look out Don Imus.....you might be in trouble.
